Practical rehabilitation

Neurological occupational therapy in Sheffield

Supporting everyday function after brain injury, stroke or neurological illness in home and community settings.

Neurological change can affect much more than physical movement. LifePath explores how cognition, fatigue, upper limb function, routines and the environment influence a person’s ability to manage everyday life.

When neurological occupational therapy may help

Support may be appropriate for adults following acquired brain injury, stroke or neurological illness when changes affect personal care, domestic tasks, community access, roles, routines or confidence. The starting point is a functional assessment and the person’s own priorities.

Areas that can be assessed and supported

  • Attention, memory, planning, initiation and problem-solving during real tasks.
  • Upper limb use during meaningful daily activities.
  • Fatigue, pacing, energy conservation and sustainable routines.
  • Personal care, meal preparation, household tasks and community participation.
  • Environmental barriers, equipment and minor adaptation needs.
  • Goal setting, graded rehabilitation and review of progress.

Rehabilitation in real-life settings

Home and community work makes it possible to practise relevant activities in context. Intervention may include task-specific practice, compensatory strategies, routine development, activity grading and advice for family or carers where the person agrees. Recommendations remain proportionate to the agreed occupational therapy scope.

A person-centred plan

Goals are agreed collaboratively and linked to activities that are meaningful to the individual. LifePath can provide assessment findings, a rehabilitation plan and progress updates within the format and timescale agreed at quotation.
